Amazon India is expanding its collaboration with Indian Railways to ramp up one-day and two-day deliveries using the dedicated freight corridor of the railways for faster movement of packages. The company is especially trying to speed up deliveries in remote areas, continuing the success it witnessed since 2019.

“This collaboration and partnership will further help railways to understand the need of e-commerce businesses and plan transport services accordingly,” said Railway Board member (Operations and Business Development) Ravinder Goyal. The move is a push for the use of rail transport to streamline the e-commerce sector’s logistics needs.

Previous Amazon collaborations with railways
During Amazon Smbhav 2023, the company announced a similar engagement with the Indian Railways and India Post to help small and medium sellers with international deliveries. The company was using the Railway’s Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFC) which decongests the existing rail network. This move sought to reduce the overall logistics costs of the company.

The e-commerce giant said at that time, “As the DFC network expands over the next few years, Amazon India will add and utilize new freight railway routes and capabilities of DFC.”

Since its first partnership with the government entity in 2019, the company’s operations scaled from one train to over 120 trains in 2024. Now the e-commerce giant is operating 130 intercity routes across 91 unique destination cities. The new partnership is likely to speed up delivery, even to remote areas of India.
