20-coach Vande Bharat train trial run was conducted from Kalupur railway station in Ahmedabad on Friday. The train was made to run at a speed of 130 kilometres per hour.

Senior officials and engineers from Western Railway were present to oversee the trial. At present, the route is served by two 16-coach Vande Bharat trains. Given the high demand and full occupancy of these trains, it has been decided to introduce the country’s first 20-coach Vande Bharat train on this route.

A 214 km-long High Speed Corridor is going to be built in Gujarat, and connect two major cities in the state. The corridor, which is set to have six lanes, will be constructed between Tharad and Ahmedabad, and provide seamless road connectivity to not just the residents of these cities but also to those living in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Delhi. The Tharad-Ahmedabad project has received a green signal from the Union Cabinet. Following which, the Centre made an official announcement through a press release, affirming to sanction the project at the cost of over Rs 10,500 Crore.

According to the Centre, the Tharad Deesa Mehsana Ahmedabad National High-Speed Corridor will be a good addition to the two key National Corridors in Gujarat. Once constructed, the new corridor will provide connectivity to Amritsar Jamnagar Corridor and Delhi Mumbai Expressway.

This will also boost the business for industrial regions of Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab, as Gujarat’s ‘transforming’ road network will help these states to conveniently reach Maharashtra’s major ports.

“The Tharad – Ahmedabad corridor will provide connectivity between two key National Corridors in the state of Gujarat, viz., Amritsar Jamnagar Corridor and Delhi Mumbai Expressway, thereby providing seamless connectivity for the freight vehicles originating from industrial regions of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan to the major ports in Maharashtra (JNPT, Mumbai and newly-sanctioned Vadhavan port,” said an official press release.
