Indian Railways has made it easier for passengers to book unreserved and platform tickets by removing the outer limit geo-fencing restriction on its Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile app. Now, passengers can book these tickets from any station or location, without the previous restriction of a 50-km radius.
Saurabh Kataria, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager recently told TOI that this change allows passengers to book unreserved tickets and platform tickets from anywhere, even from the comfort of their homes.
The geo-fencing within stations stays the same. Ticket booking is allowed from outside station premises.
The previous rule allowed booking unreserved and platform tickets only if the user was within 50 km of a station. Now, that restriction has been lifted, allowing passengers to book tickets from any location.
Indian Railways now allows booking of Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) tickets through smartphones with internet access. This means passengers can skip the long queues for unreserved tickets and easily book them from their mobile devices.
The UTS mobile app is simple to use and easy to navigate. It has become increasingly popular among rail passengers, especially those who often travel by local trains or need to book unreserved tickets.
By removing the outer limit geo-fencing restriction, Indian Railways is enhancing passenger convenience and promoting digitalization. This change is expected to encourage more people to use the UTS mobile app to book tickets, reducing the need to stand in long queues at ticket counters.
