To meet the ever-growing demands of the growing number of trains on the route, N. F. Railway has decided to set up laundry care centres at three locations in the country.
Guwahati, Katihar and Alipurduar will be the locations where the new laundry facilities will be installed. The state-of-the-art laundry care centre has a production capacity of 16,000 bedroll packets per day in Guwahati and 2,000 and 2,100 bedroll packets per day in Katihar and Alipurduar, respectively.
The new laundry centres will cater to the growing linen requirements of Guwahati-based trains like Amarnath Express, Lokmanya Tilak Express, Avadh Assam Express, Kamakhya-based trains like Northeast Express, Brahmaputra Mail, Alipurduar-based trains like Sikkim Mahananda Express and Katihar based trains like Amrapali Express, Champaran Humsafar Express.
The state-of-the-art laundry at Guwahati is a tunnel-based system which has multiple features that include the capacity to handle large volumes of linen while also optimizing the usage of water, power, steam, and chemicals. The washed linens are first weighed and fed to an automatic conveyor machine in the tunnel. They are then transferred to a tunnel batch washer for complete washing and cleaning. The washed linens are then dried through industrial dryers and ironed in a machine to ensure the best quality of bedrolls are provided to the passengers.
After the completion of the washing process, the linen sets are packed in bags for supply to the respective trains. The new laundry care centres will ensure that the passengers of Guwahati, Katihar and Alipurduar have access to the best quality linen. N. F. Railway is committed to providing clean and hygienic bedrolls to the passengers.
