Anji Khad bridge: Indian Railways to commence track linking on country’s first cable-stayed rail bridge from next month

Indian Railways is working on a full swing to complete its ongoing projects in Jammu and Kashmir. These rail projects will boost the connectivity in the Union Territory. In this context, the national transporter has shared the progress about the Anji Khad bridge. The track linking on the bridge will commence by the next month after completion of fine-tuning works.

High-level inspection of Jammu and Kashmir rail projects:- 

Earlier this month, Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager, Northern Railway carried out an intensive inspection of the USBRL project and other ongoing railway works in the Union Territory.

He was accompanied with Sandeep Gupta, CAO/USBRL, Anil Kumar Khandelwal, PED/Gati Shakti/Rly Bd, Sanjay Gupta, CMD/KRCL, RK Hegde, Director/ KRCL, Manoj Akhouri, PCOM/NR and other senior officers of USBRL Project and Firozpur Division.

Latest update on Anji Khad bridge:-

The Anji Khad bridge is the country’s first cable-stayed rail bridge. It will connect the valley with other parts of the country by rail. The railway has recently completed some construction work on this bridge.

These include – completion of Ancillary Viaduct, Central Embankment, and Final stressing of Cables. The total length of cable strand used in the bridge is 653 km. It is a part of the crucial Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla (USBRL) railway project in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chenab bridge

The General Manager also inspected Chenab bridge by motor trolley from Bakkal end to Kouri end. Ballastless Track linking work under execution in Dugga yard was also inspected. This is the world’s highest railway bridge which spans the Chenab River at a height of 359 m (1,178 ft) above the river, which is 35 meters taller than Paris’ Eiffel Tower. The bridge will be able to withstand winds with speeds up to 260 kmph and will have a lifespan of 120 years.
