Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur District witnessed a passenger train and goods train to face each other on the same track. The drivers of the trains averted a major accident by stopping the trains on time a few feet away from each other. The incident comes days after the nation witnessed a major tragedy after a train accident in Balasore, Odisha. The state witnessed the collision and derailment involving three trains killing 275 people and injuring over a thousand people.

The incident occurred in the Bilaspur district, which lies in the South East Central Railway Zone. The two trains involved in the incident were a Memu local train and a goods train that stopped a few feet away from each other.

The Memu local train was on its way to Korba when it faced the Goods train on the same track between Jairamnagar in Bilaspur District and Kotmisonar. The incident is reported to have occurred because of a human, technical error, which was rectified in time to evade the massive accident.

The incident occurred just a few days after three trains derailed in the Balasore region of Odisha, killing hundreds and injuring thousands. The Railway Ministry requested an investigation after the train crash that occurred close to the Bahanaga Baazar station in the Balasore district, roughly 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar.

The CBI investigation into the Odisha train catastrophe, in which 275 people died, and 1,175 were injured, has been approved by the railway board, according to railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday. Currently, the investigation bureau has sized the Bahanaga Bazar railway station to investigate the matter.
