Prime Minister Narendra Modi Virtually Inaugurates India’s First Cable-Stayed Rail Bridge on Anji Khad, Paving the Way for Enhanced Connectivity to Kashmir Valley

In a significant stride toward enhancing India’s transportation infrastructure and connecting the remote regions of Jammu & Kashmir, Indian Railways has successfully conducted a fully loaded train trial run on the Anji Khad Bridge — the first cable-stayed railway bridge in the country.

Located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Anji Khad Bridge is a part of the strategic Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. This feat not only reflects India’s engineering excellence but also symbolizes national integration through improved regional connectivity.

Built over a deep gorge, the Anji Khad Bridge connects Katra and Reasi, reducing the dependency on road travel through tough mountain terrain. The bridge is an architectural marvel, featuring specially designed pylons and steel cables to bear heavy train loads while ensuring safety and stability in challenging weather and seismic conditions.

The recent trial run involved a loaded freight train, showcasing the bridge’s strength, functionality, and operational readiness. Officials confirmed that the trial was successful, marking a vital milestone in linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via rail.

The Anji Khad Bridge stands as a proud example of the Indian government’s commitment to delivering large-scale infrastructure projects in difficult terrain. The bridge will also catalyze economic growth, tourism, and mobility in Jammu & Kashmir, while contributing to national security objectives through better access to remote areas.

As the USBRL nears completion, with other engineering marvels like the Chenab Bridge already in the spotlight, the Anji Khad Bridge reaffirms India’s position as a global leader in railway engineering.
