The Kavach version 4.0 is aimed at enhancing safety of train operations across the Railway network of the country. The initiative will help in rapid installation of Kavach over the vast Railway network in a few years.

“‘KAVACH’ has been developed by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) in collaboration with Indian Industry. South Central Railway has been closely associated with its implementation since the development stage,” the release mentioned.

What is Kavach
Kavach is developed to help the loco pilot in trains running within specified speed limits by automatic application of brakes in case the pilot fails to do so. It also helps safe movement of train during inclement weather.

Kavach is certified for highest level of Safety Integrity Level – SIL4 by Independent Safety Assessor. Kavach is being implemented across the Railway network to prevent train accidents, It helps in reducing the probability of train collisions in block sections and on running lines at stations through its non-SIL features.
