Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a comprehensive review of railway infrastructure and redevelopment projects in Aluva and Kozhikode.
Inspection Highlights
The Minister undertook a window trailing inspection in Aluva, assessing the ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing railway facilities. Following this, he arrived at Kozhikode Railway Station to further evaluate the infrastructure.
In a separate incident, tragedy struck on Saturday when an express train struck four workers near Shoranur in Palakkad district, resulting in their deaths, as reported by local police.
Amid the festive season, Vaishnaw highlighted the extensive arrangements being made for passengers traveling for Chhath Puja. He announced that a record 7,435 special trains are currently being operated to facilitate passenger movement, with an additional 150 special trains scheduled to run if necessary.
“Good arrangements have been made. A big holding area has been set up. Methodical arrangements have been made for the proper movement of passengers. Last year, we ran 4,500 special trains, which was a record in itself. Till October 31, 51 lakh people have traveled on these special trains,” Vaishnaw stated. He assured that the Indian Railways is prepared to manage the expected return of commuters after the festivities conclude, with elaborate plans in place at major railway stations across the country.
