The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to transform travel between the national capital and the heart of Jammu and Kashmir. Covering more than 800 kilometres in under 13 hours, this train will be a game-changer for those travelling overnight between these cities. Slated for launch in January 2025, this sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express promises a comfortable journey for long-distance travellers.
Manufactured by BEML, the Vande Bharat Sleeper was unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in September 2024. It aims to enhance the experience of overnight travel across long distances, making the journey more convenient and luxurious. The sleeper version will soon roll out on the New Delhi-Srinagar route, connecting two key cities. Eventually, it may extend its services to Baramulla, providing even greater access within Jammu and Kashmir.
The train will cover the distance between New Delhi and Srinagar in under 13 hours, with the aim to make travel quicker and easier. The route stretches for over 800 kilometres, and the train will travel via the USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link) project. This important railway link is currently being completed in mission mode. Once ready, it will connect regions that were earlier more challenging to reach by rail.
The train is expected to depart from New Delhi at 7:00 PM and arrive in Srinagar at 8:00 AM the next day. This overnight schedule allows passengers to save time by travelling at night, which is especially convenient for tourists and business travellers. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train will have limited stops at major stations, including Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Jammu Tawi, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.
The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper will offer three classes of accommodation to cater to different budgets and preferences. Passengers can choose from AC 3 Tier (3A), AC 2 Tier (2A), and AC First Class (1A). The ticket prices are expected to be ₹2,000 for AC 3 Tier, ₹2,500 for AC 2 Tier, and ₹3,000 for AC First Class. This range of options ensures affordability while also providing luxury for those who want more comfort.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is designed with passenger comfort in mind. With upgraded sleeper facilities, the train will make the journey more comfortable compared to conventional sleeper trains. Each cabin will have modern amenities, ensuring a pleasant travel experience even during overnight journeys.
