Vadodara, India (Metro Rail Today): The engineers of M C Contractors Pvt. Ltd. (MCPL) achieved a significant milestone last week by successfully launching the first open web girder (OWG) truss bridge for Package P1(C) of the Mumbai – Ahmedabad High-Speed Bullet Train project. This development marks a crucial step forward in India’s ambitious endeavor to revolutionize its transportation infrastructure.

The impressive steel bridge, designated as GAD-31, spans an impressive 99.6 meters and was meticulously positioned across the main-line track of the Indian Railways, situated between Kanjari Boriyavi and Uttarsanda stations in the Vadodara division of Gujarat. The strategic placement of this bridge not only enhances connectivity but also underscores the meticulous planning and execution involved in such large scale infrastructure projects.

Weighing approximately 1486 metric tons, the GAD-31 bridge was expertly maneuvered into place at MAHSR’s chainage 446+67, utilizing advanced techniques including multiple rollers and hydraulic jacks. Notably, the bridge is set at a skew of 62 degrees to the railway line, adding to its engineering complexity. Manufactured by the esteemed Goodluck India group in Gujarat, this architectural marvel stands tall with a height of 14.0 meters and a width of 14.3 meters.

The contract for Package P-1(C), valued at Rs. 261.24 crore, was awarded to M G Contractors by India’s National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) in August 2021. Under this contract, MGCPL is tasked with the construction of one prestressed concrete (PSC) bridge and four steel truss bridges, including the monumental GAD 28, 1967, 31, and 32, within the expansive 87.569 km Package C6 (Vadodara – Ahmedabad), currently being executed by Larsen & Toubro.

The journey towards this achievement commenced a year ago, with the erection of trestles to support the bridge’s assembly and launch in early April 2023. The meticulous planning and execution demonstrate the dedication of all stakeholders involved in the realization of this visionary project.

Looking ahead, an estimated 70,865 metric tons of steel will be utilized for the fabrication of the line’s 28 steel bridges, signifying the scale and scope of the ongoing efforts in transforming India’s transportation landscape. It is worth noting that this milestone follows the successful placement of the very first OWG bridge by MG Contractors on Package P-(B) in October 2023, underscoring their expertise and commitment to excellence.

In the broader context, the completion of 300 kilometers of pier work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed bullet train project by NHSRCL signifies steady progress towards the realization of this transformative initiative. With each milestone achieved, the vision of a seamlessly connected and efficient transportation network edges closer to reality, promising immense benefits for the nation and its citizens.

The successful launch of the OWG bridge by MCPL marks a significant stride forward in the Mumbai – Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project. This accomplishment not only demonstrates the technical prowess and meticulous planning of the stakeholders involved but also reaffirms India’s commitment to fostering innovation and modernizing its infrastructure.
