One of the notable updates by Indian Railways is the introduction of a 24-hour ticket refund scheme. This initiative aims to simplify ticket cancellations, ensuring a hassle-free refund process for passengers.
Presently, the IRCTC Rail Connect app stands as the most popular railway app, boasting over 100 million downloads. The upcoming ‘super app’ is set to integrate several existing apps, including Rail Madad, UTS, Satark, TMS-Nirikshan, IRCTC Air, and PortRead.
Moreover, Kolkata Metro’s mobile app, ‘Metro Ride Kolkata,’ has witnessed significant popularity among commuters. Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), this app allows users to recharge smart cards and book QR code-based tickets anytime, anywhere. Launched on March 5, 2022, for Android users and March 22, 2024, for iOS users, the app has garnered around 4.46 lakh downloads on the Android platform and 1400 downloads on iOS.
To enhance awareness, promotional films demonstrating app download and usage are being screened on platform televisions at various Metro stations. Additionally, construction for the underground Victoria station is underway as part of the Joka-Esplanade Metro Corridor.
