In order to enhance the speed of trains, Indian Railways on Monday (March 11) launched a project aimed at straightening sharp curves along the railway tracks between Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalore. According to Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Manish Thapliyal, the railway administration anticipates finishing these enhancements within the next three months.

“We are focusing on works that do not require the acquisition of land, as it will be a time-consuming process. Our idea is to ease the curves so that the trains can improve their speed. The maximum speed allowed on the railway lines under our division is 110 km per hour,” Thapliyal said.

Enhancing railways infrastructure
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate various railway projects tomorrow. Thapliyal informed that this development comes as part of the ongoing infrastructure development and passenger amenities improvement programmes. PM Modi will also be flagging off new trains at functions organised across the country.

Prime Minister will flag off ten new Vande Bharat trains, namely – Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, Mysuru- Dr. MGR Central (Chennai), Patna- Lucknow, New Jalpaiguri-Patna, Puri-Visakhapatnam, Lucknow – Dehradun, Kalaburagi – Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru, Ranchi-Varanasi, Khajuraho- Delhi (Nizamuddin).

The Prime Minister on Tuesday will remotely inaugurate a new train service linking Kollam and Tirupati. Additionally, he will also unveil the newly constructed goods shed at Valliyoor.

‘One Station, One Product’ scheme
Discussing the ‘One Station, One Product’ initiative aimed at supporting local artisans, he mentioned the provision for artisans to lease stalls at railway stations for 15-day periods to showcase and sell their goods. “We currently operate 17 such stalls within our jurisdiction,” he stated. Furthermore, the Prime Minister is scheduled to virtually inaugurate two additional stalls in Thiruvananthapuram district on Tuesday.

Furthermore, Thapliyal also denied allegations of delays to accommodate the Vande Bharat Express. “We had to slightly tweak the timings of other trains. There are no delays,” he claimed.

He added that Vande Bharat trains are a big hit in Kerala, and that all states are demanding one for their state.

“These are new trains and help improve ticket availability. The Vande Bharat services in Kerala have been hugely popular,” Thapliyal said.
