The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), headed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given the green light to six railway projects with an aggregate outlay of Rs 12,343 crore, all funded by the Central Government. These projects aim to address congestion and streamline operations in some of the busiest sections of the Indian Railways, marking a significant step towards infrastructural development.
Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of a progressive India, these projects are set to empower the communities in the regions they serve, fostering self-reliance through comprehensive development initiatives. Spread across 18 districts in six states – Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Nagaland, Rajasthan, and Telangana – these projects will extend the Indian Railways network by 1,020 km and generate approximately three crore man-days of employment opportunities.
These initiatives are a direct outcome of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, emphasizing multi-modal connectivity and integrated planning. They promise seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services, contributing to regional development and economic growth.
Furthermore, these railway corridors play a crucial role in transporting various commodities such as food grains, fertilizers, coal, cement, and more. The capacity enhancements envisaged in these projects are expected to increase freight traffic significantly, by around 87 million tonnes per annum. Additionally, the environmentally friendly and energy-efficient nature of railways aligns well with national objectives of climate action, reducing logistics costs, oil imports, and CO2 emissions.
