Railway Recruitment: Indian Railways empanelled 3 lakh candidates in various categories in last five years, says Ashwini Vaishnaw

Indian Railways has empanelled 3,02,550 (Provisional) candidates during the last five years (i.e. 2018-2019 to 2022-2023) and current year (i.e. 2023-2024 up to 31.12.2023), against various Group ‘C’ posts (including Level 1 & security related posts).

The Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronic & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, informed the Lok Sabha today about the recent recruitment activities of Indian Railways. He said that two major examinations involving more than 2.37 crore candidates were conducted recently to fill up 1.39 lakh vacancies.

Railways major examinations

This exam was for the recruitment of Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) such as Station Masters, Goods Guards, Clerk, Typist, etc. More than 1.26 crore candidates applied for this exam, which was conducted in seven phases from 28.12.2020 to 31.07.2021. The exam was held in 133 shifts in 68 days across 211 cities and 726 centres in 15 languages. The result of this exam is expected to be declared soon.

Similarly, recruitment of Level 1 posts such as Track Maintainer, Helper, Assistant Pointsman, etc. More than 1.11 crore candidates applied for this exam, which was conducted in five phases from 17.08.2022 to 11.10.2022. The exam was held in 99 shifts in 33 days across 191 cities and 551 centres in 15 languages. The result of this exam is also expected to be declared soon

RRB has released its annual calendar

Recently, the Railway Recruitment Board released its annual calendar on February 3. According to the calendar, the Railway Recruitment Board will issue a notification for the recruitment of assistant loco pilots between January and March every year.

April, May and June have been earmarked for recruitment to technical posts. From July to September, aspirants who wish to join the railways as junior engineers, paramedics and non-technical posts will be considered. Recruitment for Level 1 and ministerial and isolated categories have been slotted in for October to December.

Indian Railways, the largest employer in the country, is always on the lookout for qualified and skilled candidates to fill up its various vacancies. It recruits candidates through different agencies such as Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs), and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
