Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the priority section of India’s pioneering 17-kilometer Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor On October 20, according to multiple media reports. This priority section includes the route from Sahibad to Duhai. RAPIDX is India’s first RRTS and marks a significant milestone in the country’s transportation infrastructure. For those unaware, these RRTS trains bear a resemblance to metro trains but come equipped with advanced features, such as luggage carriers and mini-screens.

Here’s some first-hand information about the route, stations, and all about the train’s indigenous manufacturing.

RAPIDX: Inaugural Route and Stations

In its initial phase, the rapid rail service will commence its operations on the priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai. The Delhi-Meerut corridor, spanning 82 kilometers, will be traversed in just one hour, featuring a total of 24 stations. In its initial 17-kilometer phase, the route will include stops at five key stations, namely, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and the Duhai Depot.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS project, a remarkable regional connectivity endeavor, promises to cover 82 kilometers in just one hour when completed in 2025.

Affordable Travel via RAPIDX?

While the fare structure for Rapid Rail is yet to be finalized, it is anticipated that the fares will be competitive and may be on par with or even lower than those of metro rail services.

RRTS Facilities: Enhancing Passenger Convenience

The train is capable of speeds ranging from 160 km to 180 km per hour. It has been developed as part of the Multi-Modal Integrated Transportation System for Rapid Rail. The primary goal of the RRTS system is to simplify and enhance travel for passengers while promoting the increased use of public transportation.

The RRTS trains are equipped with various amenities aimed at catering to commuter needs. These include overhead luggage racks, Wi-Fi, and mobile and laptop charging facilities at every seat. Additionally, each train includes a premium class car, featuring wider seats, extra legroom, and coat hangers. Vending machines are also available on board for passengers’ convenience.

RRTS To Integrate Various Transport Systems

The RRTS scheme has been meticulously designed to integrate various modes of transport, including bus stands, airports, metro stations, and railway stations. The objective is to create a comprehensive and efficient transportation network.

Indigenous Manufacturing

The entire effort has been undertaken within India, with the coaches being manufactured indigenously. The coaches are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, and one coach is designated for women. The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) has been devised and implemented by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), formed through a collaborative effort involving the Government of India, along with the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

Following a memorandum of understanding between the central government and these four states on June 29, 2011, NCRTC was officially established as a company on August 21, 2013. Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor On March 8, 2019, marking the inception of this ambitious venture.

The RAPIDX service is poised to offer an advanced, sustainable, efficient, secure, and comfortable mode of transportation, marking a significant step forward in India’s transportation landscape.
