On the auspicious occasion of Ganpati immersion, railways is operating as many as eighteen special trains on Mumbai’s suburban railway network.
According to an official, these trains will be run on the night of Anant Chaturdashi, the 10th and last day of the Ganapati festival, on September 28 for passengers returning after immersion of idols.
10 suburban special trains by Central Railway
The Central Railway, in an announcement, revealed its plans to operate ten suburban special trains on the night of September 28 and 29, connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Kalyan, Thane, and Belapur stations.
Out of these ten services, six will be available on the primary line, connecting CSMT with Thane and Kalyan stations. Meanwhile, the remaining four services will be running on the harbour line, linking CSMT with Belapur station at 12:05 am on September 29th.
8 suburban special services by Western Railway
Simultaneously, the Western Railway is set to provide eight suburban special services between Churchgate and Virar stations, commencing from 12:15 am on September 29th. These services are aimed at facilitating the return of passengers following the immersion of Ganesh idols.
Considering the expected high demand at Charni Road station during the immersion event, the Western Railway has decided to halt all Churchgate-bound fast trains at every station between 5 pm and 8:30 pm, as indicated in an official statement.
Additionally, to alleviate congestion on the platforms, all Churchgate-bound slow trains will avoid stopping at platform number two at Charni Road station between 5 pm and 10 pm.
