CHENNAI: Suburban trains on the Beach-Tambaram route will face lesser delays as the Railways has replaced a few steel girders of a bridge over RBI subway. Since six of the girders were corroded, trains were being operated at 20kmph on the bridge.
This in turn affected on-time operation of suburban services and express trains passing by the stretch.
Railways replaced the girders after blocking road traffic and shifting suburban servies to Park station on Sunday. The work that began at 11pm on Saturday was completed at 10pm on Sunday.
A railway official said suburban and express trains could be operated at 40kmph speed on the stretch, and this could help increase punctuality on the route. All suburban services to Tambaram and Chengalpet were operated from Park on Sunday.
