Bhubaneswar railway station gets ‘Eat Right Station’ certificate

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar railway station has received “Eat Right Station” certificate for providing good and nutritious food to passengers. The certificate was handed over to Khurda Road divisional railway manager Rinkesh Roy by state commissioner of food safety Yamini Sarangi on Thursday.

This certificate was awarded to the station after the conclusion of an audit conducted by a food safety and standards authority of India (FSSAI) empaneled third-party agency. With a scale of 1 to 5, Bhubaneswar station with 29 food stalls secured four-star rating.

“The 4-star rating indicates exemplary efforts made by the railway authorities at this station in ensuring that safe and hygienic food is available to railway passengers. All the catering stalls at Bhubaneswar railway station are provided with food license certificates. The vendors have medical fitness certificates too,” said an official statement of the East Coast Railway (ECoR).

According to the parameter, a maximum of 40 marks out of 100 can be awarded for safe food, 25 for healthy food, 10 for sustainable food and 25 marks for building awareness.

Khuda, Road DM, said the certification will make them more responsible to maintain this standard of hygienic and food quality for the passengers in future. “Our next effort is to include Puri, Cuttack and other important stations of the division in the Eat Right Station category,” said Roy while attending a function at the city station on Thursday.

Bhubaneswar railway station is the sixth railway station over Indian Railways to get the certificate after Chandigarh, Anand Vihar Terminal, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai Central and Vadodara railway stations.
