Indian railways completes trial run of first double-stack container from Gujarat to Rajasthan

Indian railways Tuesday said it successfully conducted the trial run of the first double-stack container from Gujarat to Rajasthan.

The trial was conducted between Mundra port in Gujarat to adjacent Rajasthan’s Concor Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Kathuwas.

“The first trial run for double-stack container train from Mundra, Gujarat to Kathuwas, Rajasthan has been completed successfully. This will provide faster and efficient logistics facilitation between ports in Gujarat with other parts of the country,” the federal railways ministry said.

Officials in railways describe it as a new “milestone” in seamless connectivity between the two destinations.

Reports said the linkage provides much-needed access to the northern hinterland of India through the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

Recently, the DFC has been working hard to add more economic linkages to the Western DFC.

The move is part of DFC’s efforts to decongest the existing network of Indian railways, increase freight trains’ average speed from existing 25 kmph to 70 kmph and run heavy haul trains with higher axle load.

The first trial run for a double-stack container train between Gujarat’s Mundra and Rajasthan’s Kathuwas has been completed successfully, Indian Railways said on Tuesday.

It further said, this will provide faster and efficient logistics facilitation between ports in Gujarat with other parts of country.
